Ban those who would ban the clotheslines
Cats: slack woman|Tell me. Who was it that came up with the idea of banning clotheslines in subdivisions, anyway? Did this person possess an aesthetic qualification to deem clotheslines unsightly?
Or was this person simply afraid of the extra work and time it takes to hang clothes out in the fresh air? Perhaps this enemy of the clothesline owned shares in an electrical utility and this clouded his/her judgment. Whoever this person is and whatever their motivation, the idea to ban clotheslines in subdivision is misguided, unintelligent and borderline laughable.
In celebration of recent initiatives to discourage this mentality, this typist has dug this old clothesline chestnut out of the archive.

I totally agree GT. I find it utterly ridiculous! If I were to move to the big city and find myself moving to a subdivision, I’d not even consider moving to one that wouldn’t allow clotheslines. The very fact that these people would agree to the condition that they may live there but not have a clothesline because it’s a “rule” would make me not want to be part of their neighbourhood. I can understand old rusty abandoned cars with grass growing up through the floor, but a clothesline? Who the h-e-double hockey sticks do these people think they are?
