Parents: The barbarians at the Facebook gates
Cats: culture|It turns out that the kids are getting antsy about the parents joining Facebook.
Parents, they say, are taking over their Facebook, embarassing them by joining, putting up profiles and asking their kids and – gasp – kids’ friends to be Friends.
Kids fear parents are spying on them. On Facebook. A social media tool. That puts your life out there for all your friends to see….
And kids say it’s lame to have parents on Facebook and this will lead to the ruination of Facebook.
Maybe it will. But it’s not kids who should be afraid. It’s parents. Think about all that history a parent has, all those pictures that could be tagged, all those people a parent has known and wished they hadn’t known. Think about the kid finding out more about you than you wanted the kid to know.
No, my young friends, it is not the parents who are the barbarians. It it you, kids. You are the barbarians.
Now, use this power and stop whinging.
