Howler Monkey vs. Yard Ape
Cats: travels|Woke this morning to the unmistakable laughter of the howler monkey, mono conga in espanol. Ooh! Ooh! OOOOOOHHHHH!!! Their howls can be heard up to a thousand metres away in the jungle. Saw and heard many of these large prehensile-tailed creatures in the jungle two days ago, but their laughing cries pierced the highly humanized environs of our hotel room this morning. Perfecto!
The Ooh! Oohs! of the howler are distinctive but can sometimes be mistaken for the sounds of its North American cousin the Yard Ape. This creature can be found in bars and on the streets in urban and rural environs.

The howler monkey sounds similar in many ways to its cousin the yard ape! Perhaps it’s the warm climate of CostaLotta that has them “howling” in laughter? I say this because the Y.A.’s of M.L. seem to be influenced by the heat lately. They keep coming out of nowhere armed with water pistols and multi-functional gadgets that shoot foam disks and foam projectiles at their mother (on the rare occasion she has her guard down). The howl of a YA can also be heard thousands of metres away, sometimes as far as Lunenburg when the wind is blowing in the right direction. (See what you have to look forward to Tanya E.?) The Y.A.’s laugh now but I hooked up the garden hose recently….
Enjoy your adventure GT — sounds absolutely fabulous!!

Yam, stop scaring me!

No worries T.E. The good thing is you get to grow with the little babe and by the time she/he has the latest “jump out of nowhere” gadget you’d be wise to her/his moves.
Maternal instinct, a wonderful gift
(and the right to snoop in bookbags, and in bedrooms….)
Deep breaths and steady concentration my cyberfriend….keep us all posted of course!

Yo Yam,
I’ve got 2 weeks to go before the boy makes an appearance (well, that date of June 10 is just a suggestion, I realize).
Come by my blog for a visit. Do you have a blog too?

TE, you stop scarin’ me!
PS, this is being posted from TO AC lounge where I just photographed a spectacular sunset over the airport.

Nice, so you come to Toronto, I get all dressed up and lovely, I hang around with flowers to see you, and you don’t even care!
You run right by me with barely a “Nice belly, freak!” tossed in my direction and you tell me about the sunset?!
You’re a cruel woman.
Welcome back or whatever.

I’ll take the whatever, you big-bellied freak!

Jane G.! You flatter me! It was the snooping in the bookbags, etc. that won it for me, right?

The Yard Ape at least tends to cover up the fleshy protrusions on it’s butt. Monkeys make me feel better about my butt.
