Weekly column: Bye bye July
Cats: slack woman|Where I live, July used to be the Queen of summer, giving lots of sunshine, heat and not too much rain.
Not so these days. July’s turned into an old misery guts, ruining parades, picnics and weddings and with torrential rainfalls, fog and dampness. Thanks July. You’re a real sport.
So I say we dump July from the summer holiday schedule and move to an August September summer. Let the kids stay in school until the end of July and don’t make them go back until October.
September is far more pleasant with it Indian summer days, buttery light and stable weather patterns. In this part of the world, September is the nicest month of the year.

September can still be much too hot down south. I’m looking for a place with all-October weather.

How about we leave the kids in school until the end of July, but still send them back at the beginning of September?

Lori, you’re my new best friend. I literally laughed out loud.
Beth, can I come and visit you in steamy Georgia?

We mark summer here as the period between the last frost and the first frost, all two months of it.
You want sun, come to the BC interior in the winter.

If you’re coming this way next summer, make sure you come in August…

But our birthdays are in July, pookie.
Does this mean we just stay the ages we are now forever?

YEs Jacy, it is true, with no July we are frozen in time.

September has always been my favourite month. The crisp days, the changing colours. It’s why I chose September to get married. I remember on our wedding day (which technically was in the fall) everyone saying that it was the nicest day they had had all summer.
We have come home to NS in both July and August and maybe the vacation gods smile on us, but it is usually nice weather.
