Column: Catastrophic computer failure is not OK. OK?
Cats: slack woman|The other day a little box popped up on my computer and gave me this message:
The licensing subsystem has failed catastrophically. You must reinstall or call customer support.
But here’s the thing that really got me. The only response the little box offered was OK.
Excuse me? OK? You just told me I’ve had a catastrophic failure. And now you want me to say that is OK?
I’m sorry but that is not OK. That is bad, very bad. No, that is a disaster, but it is not OK. OK?
Go here for the rest of the story.

You’ve just inspired me to back-up my PC.
I remember when I started working on computers. It was pretty straight forward. No memory hogging Windows based applications and DOS was the tool. The unbending rule, “garbage in, garbage out” rang true.
Not now! All I get is garbage out, and none of the ‘help’ applications help.
My advice to everyone is to back-up the PC when it is working properly, because you’ll never make heads or tails of the obese and confused operating systems of today.
Not that all men are obese and confused.
