Words that should be banned: Happy Monday!!!!
Cats: CBC Radio, Canada, words|Call me a miserable SOB, but I cannot stand the chirpy, cutesy little “Happy Monday!” greeting.
Ditto Happy Tuesday-Sunday.
I don’t mind Thank God It’s Friday, or (Tell me why) I Don’t Like Mondays. I don’t mind Good Day or Hello, either. I don’t even mind Eff Off, if it’s delivered with a modicum of flare.
But Happy Monday irks me. It’s a bossy busybody greeting, part of that glib-everybody-pretend-you’re-happy movement that has swamped N. American society.
When I hear “Happy Monday” I just want to say No. That’s it. Just No.
No. No. No.
This little glibism seems to be infecting our national public broadcaster. You hear “Happy [insert day of week] ” often on the CBC’s Q program, the national arts and culture afternoon show. I gather this is supposed to pass for wit.
And our local afternoon CBC program splatters its patter with “Happy Monday!” greetings. (And there IS always an exclamation point! or three!!!) These Happy greetings are generally followed by little bouts of shallow laughter at unfunny things. Hahahaha!!!!!!!
Happy Monday is “bland”, “vacuous”, “insincere” and “insipid.”
Dump it. Kill it. Now.

OMFG nooooooo! Happily I haven’t heard that one, but promise to try and nip it in the bud at every opportunity.
So as not to appear as if i am giving orders or asking a question when I utter a greeting, i have opted to drop the adjective. So instead of saying ‘Good morning’ I just say ‘Morning’; ‘night’ instead of ‘good night’; ‘afternoon’…
I would never say ‘Good Monday’ or any other week for that matter. But would you say ‘Monday’ as a greeting?…I think not.
I’m always in a good mood, so unfortunately i might get mistaken for the “glib-everybody-pretend-you’re-happy” type. I simply don’t have the energy to be grumpy all day.

I hope you have a good week anyway though.

Jian says Happy Everyday of the Week! Drives me nuts! I also hate how he rhymes the end of every intro with “this….is Q”
Happy Friday is OK…particularly if it is followed with “Do you want to go for after school drinks??”
BTW I like the working girl…. it is nice and neat on my little monitor. She could be a little sassier with girlier hands….but I like it!

Don’t they know that they are inciting an entire nation to riot??? Bastards (note that I tripled up on punctuation too)!!!
BTW, you’re tagged

“they call it stormy Monday, but Tuesday’s just as bad” - now those are lyrics that I can embrace.
I consider myself blessed that I have not yet been subjected to being ordered to have a happy Monday. But I know the day will come.

How about….smile, it can’t be that bad!!

This post reminded me of George Carlin comedy skit: “Have a nice day” …sometimes a crappy day is in order.

Dick, no one would ever mistake you for a “glib-everybody-pretend-you’re-happy” type.
Chance, thanks, it’s improving now that Monday’s over.
Nanc, I had to stop listening to that for those and other reasons. Glad the working girl is working for you.
WP, I’ve got the burning spears lit, do you want to help me charge the gate of the multiple exclamation point stronghold?
BB, you could not have known that Stormy Monday by the Allman Bros (Live at the Filmore East) is one of the songs I have chosen to be played for my memorial service (some day, not in the near future). I absolutely adore that song and am chuffed that you grace this site with those words.
BeckEye, how about Eat Sh*t and Die.
Allison,, The British hate this Americanism. I used to tell them that Canadians don’t say it, but I fear “have a nice day” is in wide use here.

“WP, I’ve got the burning spears lit, do you want to help me charge the gate of the multiple exclamation point stronghold?”
CBC Producer: This is madness!
Gifted Typist: Madness…?
[She kicks the producer down the well]
Gifted Typist: This…is Nova Scotia!

Haha, WP, you always get right to the kernel of the matter.

The term “Hump day” personally makes me want to throw up and then slit my wrists.
