Let’s have some Barackracy next week
Cats: politics|With just days left in the US election, I’m nervous. I can’t fathom a world lead by McCain and the cartoon-character, moose-hunting, loose-canon, hockey-mom from Wasilla, Alaska. No offense to loose canons.
I’m liking Barack Obama’s chances and everything seems to be going well for his campaign.
But the Republicans shouldn’t be underestimated. They’re trying every dirty trick in the book including the one outlined in this week’s The Rolling Stone about the Republican campaign of denying new voters. One of its authors is JFK Jr.
The results of the last election were dubious, at best.
We can’t afford that again. And I say “we” as Canadian-Brit. The outcome of this election will have a huge impact on all of us whether we’re eligible to vote or not.
Here in Canada we have a minority government of Republican-wannabes. We’d be very exposed if the real Republicans get in.
I wish I could vote on this one. I hope my American friends will vote for me.

I will be more than happy to vote for you dear as the world can’t handle another four years of this mess that we have had thrust upon us. Cross your fingers.

I’m hoping that most Americans will embrace the opportunity for change, otherwise the whole world will be facing an emotional depression.

That we even have to worry about this is dark testament to how troubled the mainstream US voting public has become. What is most concerning about the Rolling Stone article is a revelation that keeping the ‘voting’ chunk of the population proportionately small (and relatively predictable) is a primary initiative of the outgoing administration. In the wake of many appointments of partisan election officials who have discretionary power to disallow newly registered voters without any scrutiny nor accountability some shocking and apparently partisan abuses of power have come to light. Some are being investigated, but considering a not insignificant part of the Obama ‘surprise’ is the newly registered voter, we do well to be concerned. But then again, from an administration that effectively suspends Habeas Corpus as it suits them, we certainly shouldn’t be surprised.

I voted for Obama for you. Millions of my countrymen will do the same.

Happy to vote for you. I just can’t imagine what kind of military strategist John McCain would have made. Based on the way he’s run his own campaign, I’m not surprised that he got himself shot down (apparently he ignored a warning signal and kept flying anyway).
