Thinking outside the box on Boxing Day
Cats: Uncategorized|Read my Herald column over here.
Join me in a boxing match against the manufacturers and retailers who indulge in excessive packaging.
Instead of taking the packaging home, just unwrap it at the store.
That way the store pays to have it removed. Not you.
People in the UK are doing this. They call their protest Wrap Rage.
The idea is to make the statement by pressuring the stores. This in turn pressures the stores to pressure the manufacturers to think outside the box.

Great idea! Hope it catches on over here.
I shall be lounging in my pj’s all day though, not spending anything, which is how I like to spend Boxing Day.

I read in the previos post that you left bourbon out for Santa. My what a good little girl you are! Glad to hear you made it home in one piece and your white knuckles should be returning to their normal color any day now. Did you get the chance to watch any of this season’s old movie picks? I thought of you as Flannery and I sat down to watch David Niven and Cary Grant in “The Bishop’s Wife” the other night. It was an excellent Christmas movie with a lot of laughs and heart-warming scenes. Just wanted to drop you a note to wish you a Happy Christmas but I have to get back to cleaning up the mess my little heathens made and I’m sure you do too.
Cheers,
Doc

Boxes to the left of me!
Boxes to the right of me!
Onward, onward, into the Valley of Packaging!
The worst of it yet? The (expletive) garbage men didn’t come today, some nonsense about it being a “holiday schedule.” We can’t even walk into the kitchen from all the bags, though most of it is not Christmas stuff, but stuff we were clearing out so that there would be room for Christmas.

BTW, Happy Boxing Day and remember, “stick and move, stick and move.” Oh, and watch out for jabs and haymakers.

I really like the idea of this unwrapping and leaving the packaging at the store, as excessive packaging has been a bugbear of mine for years. The only issue I see is that when you put that packaging into the store’s garbage bin, it ends up in the landfill. I think it might be better to hand it to the manager and asking them to recycle it.
Stay away from the mall!

Allison, it’s been happening in the UK for a few years now. My experience is that Canada is pretty slow to catch on green initiatives.
Cormac, good luck with the boxing and the poetry.
Cormac2, it’s not bad at all, I left it all at the store
Barbara, you are right. It’s not a solution; but a form of protest and yes, I will happily obey the mall request.
Dan and A, thank you, will be in touch

Well said. Excessive packaging has become horrendous, particularly for food!
