It’s tax time – time to feed those unelected Canadian senators
Cats: Canada, politics|Doing my personal and business taxes these past few days.
It’s my duty, and being a rule-follower to fault, I will perform my duty in a timely and law-abiding manner.
And I will pay up in a timely and law-abiding manner, too.
Because, let’s face it, all those unelected Canadian Senators deserve my money, don’t they?
I mean, how can they possibly be expected to swan around being self-important and beyond public accountability if they don’t have a decent salary and expense account?
So my treat guys.
Go head, Canadian Senator. Why don’t you just order another Filet Mignon? And while you’re at it, slosh it down with a nice glass Cabernet Sauvignon.
In fact, order a whole bottle and treat your friends. Because they deserve our tax money, too? And afterwards they’ll thank you. You, Canadian Senator! That’s because you’re doing such an important job.
Just think what a terrible mess our fair country would be if we didn’t have these all you sycophantic, do-nothing, unelected political parasites buzzing around.
This one’s for you, Canadian Senators.
Ah, tax time.

Got to laugh. Otherwise we’d be crying. I keep looking south of the border and even though their economy is going down the toilet at least their leader gives hope to the country. What do we have?

Aren’t you just the timely tax payer? I find it’s way more fun to wait until late April before starting.

Oh I like to think all my tax dollars are going on the things I approve of. You may be paying for Senators but I feel mine is all going for grants to insulate houses and low income winter fuel payments. I am sure I paid for a bit of that school I just drove past..

Kimberly, I know there there are Canadians out there with vision and smarts – unfortunately none are in power right now.
Barbara, I don’t actually resent paying taxes – I just hate doing them.
cp, Oh yes, they are not elected, but appointed. They do nothing to speak of, but they act important. They are political appointments. For all its warts, your system is far more democratic than ours.
Cormac, alas no, beleaguered typists pay like everyone else.
Matthew Guy, that is exactly why I hate paying those do-nothing senators.
Because I see every filet mignon they dine on as money that should rightfully go to low-income fuel payments, improving schools and building more playgrounds.

I already filed and received my refund. Yay! I get to put some in savings, pay down some credit cards with most of it, and maybe have enough left over to go buy some gum.

Make ‘em work at a Foof Bank (actually that would lower the tone!). Make a condition of employment actual hands on community service … cleaning prison toilets maybe. Better yet, bring on the Guillotine (sic).

I think aspiring to be a Senator has merit. Just think of all the people who make their living from fraudulent workers compensation claims, fraudulent insurance claims, and fraudulent employment insurance and social assistance claims. These people don’t have the prestige, and you don’t have to compromise your ethics to become a Senator.

Received my tax return last week. Huzzah! Well, not that I get to see it, goes to paying off my student debt. Guess I should have enjoyed all those cran/vodkas more thoroughly.

Do I detect just a touch of sarcasm in this post?
