McCartney’s coming to town – shall I go?
Cats: music|Tomorrow tickets go on sale for Sir Paul McCartney’s outdoor concert just down the road from me.
I’m debating whether I can be bothered to get the $125 tickets.
I love the Beatles and like Macca well enough. His Wings stuff was sort of fun back in the ’70s.
I’m not one of those Canadians who got all up in arms about his anti-sealing protest a couple of years back. You know, free speech and all that. And besides, Canada could have handled the whole seal protest with more sophistication and cleverness.
And now Europe’s done what they said they would do: banned seal products. So I guess Macca won that one.
You gotta hand it to him though: he’s a brave man to make Eastern Canada a stop on his tour. Let’s hope he doesn’t pull a Celine Dion and get in a snit and pull out if someone says something he doesn’t like.
I suppose I’m thinking I should see him for same reasons I should see, say, the Elgin Marbles. He’s part of history and I may never get the chance again.
But, ho-hum. I’m just not feeling the excitement.
Would you go an see Macca if he were performing just down the street from you?
I’m open to all arguments.
Convince me.

Since he is, literally, playing two blocks away from my front door, I plan on sitting on my stoop and listening. Maybe take a stroll down Robie. But $125? Damn, sucka.

I’m debating too. Saw the Rolling Stones and had a ball. Paul is an icon of our times.I’ll probably buy the tickets and if I change my mind I’m sure they would be easy enough to sell. Then instead we could go downtown, sit on the sidelines and listen:)

“Would you go an see Macca if he were performing just down the street from you?”
No, save for the occasional Wings or Beatles tune, his catalog consists of everything I don’t like with pop music. He really didn’t take care of his voice at all throughout the years and he has a hard time hitting the high notes or staying in key…in the studios or live.
“I’m open to all arguments. Convince me.”
He was financially (expletive) and he might actually need the money.

Macca? I must hang with the wrong crowd.
Would you pay $125 to see the Elgin Marbles? Not that “Macca” is on par.

We saw McCartney & Wings back in 1990 when I was about 6 months pregnant with my first child & she was thumping & bumping to the beat. It was loud but a very good show. Of course, I’d balk at paying $125!

I saw him in 1989. It was a great show, but $125 great? Nah.

I will be at adult music camp in Ottawa,,but I would go for sure if I was going to be home…

The Beatles never really did it for me growing up, and I just remember the dissapointment with his solo stuff ( other than Live and Let Die, but that has more to do with sitting through the movie twice I’m the back row with Mary Ditherbe than Macca, but the two are inextricably linked now)
Besides it would feel like too much of a betrayal to the Stones….

“in” not “I’m” – Damn iPhone!
May 28th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
No.
He was always my least favourite Beatle and I have always hated Wings. But that’s just me.

Racquel, that means we live not too far away from each other!
Shelagh, I was at the Stones too. Worth every penny and drop of rain. Just not sure I’d stand in the rain for Sir Paulie
Cormac, I liked some of the bubblegum stuff like Silly Love Songs but never considered it to be anything more than bubblegum which I wouldn’t pay $125 for
As for the argument, unless he’s Leonard Cohen who was financially (expletived), that’s not a good enough reason to see him.
Dick, Macca is a term of endearment that is used widely in British papers and is now in pretty wide circulation across North America, but possibily not rural BC
Here’s a ref in The Sun

Cube, I’d probably enjoy his show, but I don’t feel enough passion to pay that money and risk being outside in the rain
Lisa, $125 is $125
Nanc, your music in ottawa will be more vital and exciting and probably not as expensive
Tagbagger, Ah, youthful association. It’s a powerful thing, innit? Seeing him live might wreck that, so don’t go. And, don’t betray Mick

I’m a Beatles fan, like everyone else on earth, but I refuse to shell out 125.00 to see an ant, who used to be a beatle, 1/2 a kilometre away. Watching from a mud pit, mind you.
I will spy on the concert from the street, because I’m a sucker for still wanting to see him in the flesh. Just do that!

p.s.
The insect comparison was totally an accident.

Whether the ticket price is too expensive that is an issue… but it’s your issue. Paul’s concerts are great, full of energy and sweet feelings. I say go relaxed but not wearing the “I will go to watch a living legend” dress.
