Zoiks! Flu pandemic’s on, now what?
Cats: Uncategorized|OK, so the WHO has just declared a Swine Flu pandemic.
Not sure what to think.
Initial fears were calmed by the mild nature of the illness, but if it’s anything like the killer flu of 1917-18 the worst of it will hit in a second wave. Is this it? Or is this just the preparation.
So who knows?
WHO knows, I guess.
What are you doing to ready for this?

That link isn’t working for me.
Well, the media didn’t tell me to do anything, so I don’t know what to do!
I doubt we have much to worry about until fall. I base this on the fact that I have never had the flu outside of winter.
I’ve been trying to address my grubby habits for a few years now (i.e. hand washing, not putting my hand in my eye or mouth), so I will continue down that road.
Equally important is to keep hydrated, exercise, eat well, and get adequate rest.

I suspect that the WHO will come to realise that a definition of ‘Pandemic’ that does not take into account the severity of illness, will be about as useful as the definition of Female Decreased Sexual Desire Disorder that forgot to include the fact that someone was upset about it, which amazingly curbed the epidemic of FDSDD once it was included (60% or so of women had it, according to drug company sponsored studies).
(And no points for guessing who profited most from the inaccurate definition, but it’s likely the same group who will profit from this newly declared ‘Pandemic’)

Nothing. I shall continue my sneeze-in-the-hand-and-wipe-on-my-jeans ways and scoff at mentions of pandemics.

Just maintain common sense, I guess. And stay away from the sickies.

I have become OC about washing my hands, using hand sanitizer, not touching public door handles, stair railings, etc. I also become angry with people who come to work and tell everybody how sick they feel – stay home you germ spreaders!! I am not as violently angry and OC as a few others in the office, but it could get worse.

Dick, thank you, do you work for the health department?
TagBagger, I wonder if the FDSDD epidemic looked at the people the sufferers were married to??? But as you say, drug companies have no interest in that. Maybe we should call the swine flu problem a profit-demic
Deepti, pan-pan-pan-demic (if you know flight emergency lingo)
Barbara, I love the depth of the concern for your fellow human beings
HnP, I actually hope to catch the Swine flu this time, so I’m immune from it when the second wave strikes in autumn.
