Hurricane was boring; too bad for the Stupid People
Uncategorized| 4 Comments »See my column here.
I’ve renamed the recent storm from Hurricane Bill to Boring Bill.
We were ready for a natural disaster. We ended up with a windy day and big waves.
Too bad for the Stupid People who when down on the slippery rocks to meet the hurricane-driven waves head on.
They needed a thrill so they risked [...]
Shouldn’t we call them hurricanes and hissicanes?
Uncategorized| 4 Comments »OK so last week’s hurricane was called Bill.
This weekend we’re getting another hurricane. This one is Danny.
Maybe I’m just turning into a picky, pedantic typist, but shouldn’t we be alternating the honorific.
For the girl hurricanes, it can remain the same. Hurricane.
But for the boy hurricanes, it should be changed to hissicane, no?
Hissicane Bill. Hissicane Danny.
What [...]
Hurricane update: it’s all good
Uncategorized| 6 Comments »We had a good blow, some big waves, heavy rain and interesting cloud formations.
We all ran out and bought our wind-up radios, batteries, and tins of tuna.
Then we sat and waited for it to hit.
Stupid people went out on the rocks where furious waves were crashing. Some were sucked in but none were killed.
Luckily the [...]
Hurra-hurra-Hurricane
Uncategorized| 6 Comments »Just went down to the beach to feel the brunt of Hurricane Bill.
We are not in the eye of this monster storm (775 km wide) and our waves are not 14 meters like they are on other shores of the province, but it is impressive.
For a moment I stood on the top of the dunes [...]
A suitcase, lost and then found again
Uncategorized| 3 Comments » Go here for my Herald column.
It’s the story of a suitcase that fell out the back of a truck and somehow found its way back again.
Funny how things happen.
Just when you aren’t expecting them.
When it’s hotter than Hades
cottage| 3 Comments »Last few days have been steamers, both hot and humid.
That’s a fierce combination for a typist on work deadlines while supposedly on “holiday.”
Being at the cottage with the white-sand beach and warm waters so near is like a form of torture on days like this.
But if you’re going to have to put up with torture, [...]
When the cat takes the bus
Uncategorized| 2 Comments »See my column here.
In Britain, this time of year is called silly season.
There are few political stories because the politicians are all on the barbeque circuit.
So that means there’s more room for silly stories.
My favourite silly season story is the one about the cat who takes the bus each day.
Another funny one is the story [...]
When people you love are in pain
Uncategorized| 4 Comments »I don’t usually blog on a personal note.
But this is personal.
People around me are hurting right now, and hurting bad.
They are different people, hurting for different reasons.
But their pain is vicseral.
I hear it claw through the raw flesh of their souls as they try to describe their rage, fear and isolation with mere words.
What useless [...]

Uncategorized| 10 Comments »…with flowers.
Got a new macro lens for my recent b’day and have been using it to get a view of summer flowers, some in my own garden, most not.
