September is the new August

In my neck of the woods, summer is defined as July/August. That’s when the kids are off and people take their holidays.

But the weather patterns are a changing. These days August/September are the nice months and July is generally rainy and foggy, unpleasant at best.

When we lived in an agricultural economy, July/August were the months off so kids could help around the farm.

We no longer live in such an economy so we aren’t technically committed to July/August.

I call for a change of summer holidays. Make them August/September. The kids could go back to school after (Canadian) Thanksgiving in October.

That way we get the nice weather at the same time we have our holidays.

I want to live in Ireland where the weather is always the same, everyone has cool accents, and the men are always good and drunk.

Say it ain’t so! October is MY month, mine, mine, mine and I won’t share any of it with kids, I won’t I won’t I won’t. Ok, I’m better now. Just a little kiddie trantrum there. I book the month of October off each year for several reasons, one of them being kids are back to school. I enjoy Fall travel (many adult couples w/o kids travel at this time) and I spend QUIET peaceful days around the house enjoying October weather while kids are back at school. Nope, won’t get this gal to sign a petition to change ‘summer’ holidays.
