"Mad cow" disease has caused enormous, long lasting damage. Our reaction to the disease has destroyed much of the atlantic beef industry, even though mad cow has never been identified in this region.
amost every day, I work with people whose lives have been enormously damaged by the results of the mad cow debacle.
In 1998, a (now former) senior bureaucrat involved in agriculture from a non-Maritime province, sent me what I thought was a pretty funny joke about mad cow. We stopped laughing shortly thereafter.
On another note, i really like this blog and you kin type damn good girl!

I read this and laughed out loud. Love 1 through to 4. Same with 7 and 8. All way overblown.

Though when it comes to infectious diseases can anything really be too overblown? I was in Ontario during SARS and it was pretty serious for those who were infected. It's hard to say that it was overblown when a lack of coverage could have resulted in more spread (people not knowing) Same with H1N1 currently.

We really can't say that a lack of media coverage would mean that the situation would be worse, but there is evidence to suggest that a lot of coverage has kept the impact low.

Just saying!
