Is it really spring? Bring it on
Cats: Canada|In this part of the world, it’s not unusual to wait until May or even June for anything that closely resembles spring.
Sometimes we go from winter directly to summer with hardly a moment of spring.
And sometimes there’s no summer either.
But this year spring seems to be in the air early and it couldn’t some too soon. This past weekend was sunny and there was heat in that sunshine. Heat!
You can almost hear the plants waking up and thinking about getting going again. People were out in their yards picking up winter debris as if to will spring.
You can’t blame us.
Last winter was tough with its freeze-thaw-freeze storms that left us picking ice rather than shovelling. It made you feel like Neolithic Nan – out there chiselling away to free the car.
Mind you, I still haven’t removed the snow tires and probably won’t for another month. This is Canada after all, and one of its favourite little teases is to lull you into a sense of spring and then dump a big rip snorter of a snow storm on you in April. Then laugh.
But even if we get that rip snorter, June is only 3 months away, July 4 months.
Summer is coming in other words
Bring it on.

I believe you have jinxed things. After a weekend that had my neighbours on the sunny side of the street raking their lawns, we are now having flurries and windchills. So, yeah, thanks,

Barbara, so far so good. Went skiing yesterday but there’s no snow on my driveway or lawn!

I have a very intelligent nephew who tells me that he expects to talk about something other than the weather with me. Not sure if this is a complement or he is just tired of talking to Maritimers. Any ways, I avoid the topic when we have a conversation. But it is difficult. That darn weather is all around us, soaking into our souls and shifting our moods. Today is rainy, damp and dull and I feel the same, would rather curl up on my couch and read a nasty novel then pull creative thoughts out of my head as I am expected to do on a daily basis. AH, but yesterday…finishing at 3ish I did curl up in the sun and just soak up those warm rays (they were warm where I was) and rest my soul. So here I am talking about the weather deep in blogland where my nephew can’t hear.
(Read your article in the Chronicle today and came here to read your blog, great.)
