Is there VIAGRA for blogging?

blogs| 7 Comments »

You’ve heard all the excuses:
- Busy as a bee
- Life gets in the way
- Twitter’s taken over
- Computer problems

- sore neck and shoulders
- dead tired
This isn’t an “excuse” post, just a touch-down to say I haven’t gone away.
And I haven’t lost interest, although the old drive-2-post ain’t what it used to be.
In the old days, [...]

Has blogging lost its groove?

blogs| 25 Comments »

Lately I’ve noticed a lot of sign-offs and sign-outs from some of my A-Lister bloggers.
It started last year when Chelene the investment banker from New York City signed off Bliss and Bile. That sent shock waves through our little blogging community.
Her blog was funny, smart and consistent in tone and output. I used to visit [...]

Are blogs and Twitter like Jon and Kate?

blogs| 14 Comments »

I must confess to you, my dear bloggies, that I’ve been cheating on you.
It’s true. I’ve been living a dual on-line life: One here on GT and the another on Twitter.
For the longest time I tried to keep the two worlds separate, like Jon tried to do on Jon and Kate plus Eight.
GT is still [...]

Woot! Updated Wordpress to 2.8

blogs| 6 Comments »

In the past, updating this blog has been traumatic as this humble typist grappled with the complexities of FTP, servers, deleting and replacing the correct files.
Such is the joy of having a blog of one’s own.
But since Wordpress 2.7, our world has become easier.
Now it’s just one press of a button on the dashboard and [...]

GT’s a one-hit wonder

Uncategorized, blogs| 15 Comments »

Thanks to the famous woman with the seeing, hearing and speaking challenges and one of the lead singers of that famous Brit band of mop tops from 1960s, GT has been invaded with hits.
They’re actually more like hit-n-runs, hundreds of them. The other day I had almost 1000 hits. They’re coming from people googling [...]

More words that made you gag in 2008

Uncategorized, blogs| 13 Comments »

See my Herald column over here.
It’s funny how words rile. I had a lot of feedback on my “words that make me gag” column last week.
People wrote in with way more than I had room to mention.
And they weren’t all just words. Excessive use of exclamation marks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Admittedly, it bugs me too. IT’S LIKE [...]

Which GT theme are you using?

Uncategorized, blogs, odd things| 18 Comments »

A couple of weeks ago, GT went through a bit of a make-over. Some might have said an identity crisis.
At the end of the day, I installed a theme-switcher to allow you to choose which look you like. The themes appear at the top of the page in the sidebar, either on the left or [...]

Just for fun on a Friday

blogs, culture| 13 Comments »

This theme is Working Girl.
It could also be called Working Typist.
I have to admit that it does represent a certain typist of your acquaintance crunched over sitting up straight at a keyboard all day long. (Only my desk is not so neat).
A certain 11-year old daughter has been over my shoulder this week offering unvarnished [...]

Food for thought

blogs, travels| 16 Comments »

Update: Yup, you’re right about the comments. I’ve darkened them and made them larger. Check it out. I’ve also increased the size of the font in the posts. This theme isn’t widgetized, meaning I have to go into the code to make changes in the sidebars.
This “What Not To Wear” blog styling exercise will not [...]

And now, for something completely different

blogs| 18 Comments »

This one is called McMac. It’s a Wordpress theme designed by the very talented Milo, who designed the “Summer” theme I had up on Monday.
The messiness could be distracting, but I must say, it does represent the state of my desk on most days. You find the strangest things on my desk, and my office [...]

Welcome to Summer (theme)

blogs| 13 Comments »

So. I’ve heard you. Yesterday’s theme wasn’t doing it for you.
You said no personality. Corporate. Boring. Blah.
I wonder what Simon and Paula would have said.
So, here’s Monday’s theme. It’s call Summer. And appropriately it’s sunny outside my window this morning.
I’ve flirted with this one before. I’m going to make a few small changes to the [...]

Does this theme make GT’s bum look fat?

blogs| 13 Comments »

Update: I’ve been playing around with the CSS code and have done the following

put colour in the header
changed font from stark arial to a more laid-back verdana
reduced most of header fonts to lower case (because I don’t like to yell)
reduced the size of the fonts

I have a graphic of an old fashioned typewriter for the [...]

Was it Newton or Einstein who stated:

That if you get your snow tires taken off on April 23rd, there will be snow in the forecast on April 24th.
Sorry I forget the physics genius who worked out the Law of Springtime Road Rubber Change and Frozen Precipitation.
But I do know that it is a cause-and-effect action.
Change tires = snow.
I awoke this morning [...]

I’m back and tending to NBL

blogs| 9 Comments »

Just getting caught up with my Non-Blog Life (NBL). You know: work, laundry, cat surgery.
She’s in theatre as I write. She’s having three rotten teeth out. It’s a good thing we took the holiday before this bill comes in. It’s going to be a whopper. I’ll blog later this week on the morality of [...]
